TikTok wants to make it easier for its users to credit original creators and directly cite their inspiration when posting on the app. As a result, the platform has introduced a series of new tools that allow users to tag their sources and viral sounds plus the creators they have been influenced by.

"With the launch of these crediting tools, creators will have the ability to directly tag, mention, and credit a video in their description," Kudzi Chikumbu, Director of the Creator Community explains in a press release. Alongside tagging options, TikTok is adding user prompts for crediting throughout the posting process and educational pop-ups that explain why crediting is important.

The new features sit alongside a number of tools that TikTok already has in place for its creators, including the TikTok Library and its "Originators" series which highlights popular trend-originators on the app each month. TikTok also hosts a creator portal for users, which includes sections on best practices for crediting Originators and explains how best to find them if you aren't sure where a trend has started from.

New features on the app are set to launch for users in the coming weeks. While you're here, check out which stars are set to join the TikTok musical based on Taco Bell's Mexican pizza.
