Rapper Ice Spice unpacks her influence in a recent interview.
The Bronx rapper has always been open about her queer sexuality, sharing in an interview with Ebro that she was in fact, bisexual. Yet, despite pretty in pink packaging and music that garners cosigns from female rappers like Nicki Minaj, the gendered marketing isn't turning away her masculine fans. Ice Spice remains a favorite, for those who subscribe to the gender binary and those who don't.
Her impact is clear and according to her it's simply because she's herself. "I wouldn't say girls, specifically, because the gays love me and I love the gays," she says. "I'm just making [music] that I like, honestly…. Everybody could really vibe to the beats. The beats is the most important thing. The beats be hard, n****s be wanting to hear that too. So I feel like everything else complements it."
