Cardi B's "UP" Takes No. 2 Spot on Billboard Hot 100
info@hypebae.com (HYPEBAE) Wed, 17 Feb 2021 HYPEBAEFollowing her chart-topping hit "WAP" with Megan Thee Stallion back in August 2020, Cardi B has once again made music history. According to Chart Data, the rapper's recent "UP" has become the "highest-debuting solo track by a female rapper on the [Billboard] Hot 100 this century."
The previous artist who claimed this achievement was Lauryn Hill, whose "Doo Wop (That Thing)" ranked number one on the Hot 100 chart in 1998. Since 2017, Cardi B has earned a place in the top 10. "UP" marks Cardi B's ninth top 10 hit on the Hot 100.
For those wondering why the artist hasn't dropped her follow-up to Invasion of Privacy, she told Apple Music's Zane Lowe in an interview earlier this month that felt like she didn't "have the right songs." She commented: "I have recorded so many songs. I think I’ve got like 50 songs recorded, and I’m just still not satisfied. If I’m not satisfied, I’m just not satisfied, but I really want to put out an album this year. I feel like I have no choice now. Now, I feel like I exceeded my limit of holding. I just need to stop with the fear."
