What is it about?

Set in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, the show features evil mythical creatures of Philippine folklore hiding amongst humans. The series follows detective Alexandra Trese who specializes in the supernatural, as she finds herself going up against a criminal underworld of malevolent other-worldly beings.

The graphic novel was initially published independently by Alamat Comics in ashcan and digital format. After being re-released multiple times, the comic gained the attention of the public, leading to it being nominated and winning several accolades since its debut in 2005.

Who are the cast members?

Trese will be available in an English language version and a Filipino language version. The English cast stars YOU and Pretty Little Liars actor Shay Mitchell as Alexandra Trese, along with The Good Place's Manny Jacinto as Maliksi, Glee's Darren Criss as Marco and former Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger as Miranda Trese. As for the Filipino cast, one of the country's most popular actors Liza Soberano will voice the anime's protagonist.

How many volumes from the comic will Season 1 cover?

Season 1 will include six episodes that run for around 25 to 30 minutes each. The original graphic novel is comprised of seven books in which the first three spotlight 13 cases. According to Netflix, the first season might feature the first six cases, which covers the whole of Volume 1 and two cases from Volume 2.

Who's producing it?

The show is directed and executive produced by Jay Oliva, whose credits include Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra, while BASE Entertainment is producing the anime. Other directors like David Hartman, Mel Zwyer and Tim Divar have also taken part in this project. Tan and Baldisimo serve as showrunners. Netflix received a number of animated pitches from across the world, but Trese was chosen, making it the very first Filipino anime series on the streaming platform.
