Joe Biden To Nominate First Black Woman to Supreme Court

President Joe Biden is expected to name the first Black woman to the Supreme Court in replacement of Justice Stephen Breyer, who is set to end his term in June.
Biden's pledge entails the barrier of entry for Black women in terms of securing a place in the nation's higher courts. The list of nominees includes 51-year-old Ketanji Brown Jackson, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and a graduate of Harvard Law School; 45-year-old Leondra Kruger, a graduate of Yale Law School who serves as a justice on the California Supreme Court; and 55-year-old J. Michelle Childs, a South Carolina-based Federal District Court judge.
"The president has stated and reiterated his commitment to nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court and certainly stands by that," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a news conference.
Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina, one of Biden's top congressional allies, mentioned during the presidential campaign that he believes Childs should be appointed. This stems from the fact that she has a blue-collar background, which comprises a rare group of federal judges.
