Sydney McLaughlin Breaks World Record, Wins Gold for 400-Meter Hurdles at Tokyo Olympics

Team USA's Sydney McLaughlin, who recently appeared in a teaser for The Weeknd's upcoming single, won her first gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The athlete broke the world record for the women's 400-meter hurdles, finishing at 51.46 seconds to beat her teammate Dalilah Muhammad, who won silver in 51.58 seconds. Meanwhile, the Netherlands' Femke Bol came in third place, claiming the bronze medal.
Both McLaughlin and Muhammad have been steadily breaking records over the past two years, with McLaughlin breaking the world record at the 2019 U.S. Nationals followed by the Doha championships. At the Olympic trials, she became the first woman to finish the race in less than 52 seconds.
"I can't really get it [the world record] straight in my head yet. I'm sure I'll process it and celebrate later. I am absolutely delighted. What a great race," McLaughlin said after the game.
