A rare first-generation iPod, preserved in its original 2001 packaging, has sold for $29,000 USD on Rally. The iPod was initially purchased by parents as a $399 USD Christmas gift for their teenager at an Apple store in Plano, Texas, and it remained untouched on a shelf until its recent rediscovery.

"He wasn't sure what he wanted to do with it," shared Rally co-founder Rob Petrozzo. "So he put it on a shelf, and then, inevitably, time passed." The owner stumbled upon the historic piece, still encased in the original blue Apple store bag, while cleaning out their house following the death of his father. "It truly is a time capsule," Petrozzo added.

Rally, a platform known for enabling shared ownership of unique assets like tech memorabilia, orchestrated the sale. The iPod's ownership was initially split into 5,000 shares, each valued at $5 USD, through a Rally-established Limited Liability Company (LLC), attracting a diverse group of investors.

Unexpectedly, a private collector swooped in during July and acquired all 5,000 shares, securing exclusive possession of this technological relic.
