UK Government Announces Initiative To End Stigma Around Miscarriages

Sadly, miscarriages carry a heavy stigma to this day as maternal health is not adequately prioritized. Thankfully, the United Kingdom government has recently announced an initiative to provide parents who have suffered a miscarriage with a certificate to recognize their devastating loss.

While studies show that around one in four miscarriages occur in the UK, this number may not be entirely accurate as pregnancy loss is not recorded, signaling a lack of concern in the medical industry. It is unknown whether or not the new initiative will aid in reporting miscarriages, but it is a welcome shift in our culture. In an interview with The Independent, Amy Lee of Lily Mae Foundation shares, "To many of our families who have sadly lost a baby before 24 weeks, this small gesture will mean the world, and provide recognition that their precious baby existed."
