Ariana Grande Will Raise at Least $3 Million USD for Trans Youth

Ariana Grande has partnered with Pledge to support transgender youth.

On Transgender Day of Visibility, singer Ariana Grande announced her "Protect & Defend Trans Youth" fundraiser via Instagram. As part of the initiative, people can donate to "support organizations providing direct services and advocating for the rights of trans youth," she shared in her caption.

Grande was inspired to stand in solidarity after noticing the number of anti-trans bills that are negatively affecting trans youth daily. "Right now there are hundreds of disgraceful bills pending in state legislature that target trans youth and aim to curb their rights," she said.

For context, recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that any parents, guidance counselors and doctors who aid trans youth in receiving gender reassignment surgery, will be reported as taking part in child abuse. Abbott sent a formal, public statement urging Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to follow suit, or risk losing their jobs.

As a result of such harsh treatment against trans individuals in the U.S., Grande shared that she would be matching funds up to $1.5 million USD, making a fund total of $3 million USD.
