Going Brunette Will Be the Wave for 2022

The new year is always the perfect opportunity time to reinvent yourself, and that can include changing up your look. Dark hair will take over 2022, and there are a few reasons behind it that go beyond appearance. Many celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Billie Eilish and Hailey Bieber have already jumped on the brunette bandwagon, proving this is just the beginning for the latest beauty trend.

"There’s definitely been a change in attitude as I see clients transition to darker, more luxurious hues," Sharon Dorram, colorist at Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger, told The New York Times. "Brunette shades tend to create a more mysterious vibe, so total transformations by blondes have been extremely trendy. It’s similar to trying on another personality."

Milk chocolate, Coca-Cola, chestnut, dark chocolate, sable brown, and a shade close to black are all popular colors that are slated to dominate in the new year. "The request is about shine and more healthy hair," Franck Izquierdo, founder of IGK salons in New York, Miami and LA, told the outlet. "They’re asking specifically for a glossy brunette."

Zoomers also play a big role on the latest hair color trend. "Gen Z are now more aware of their health and being healthy," Izquierdo added. "I see the healthy brunette as being the trend of the new year. Being behind the chair every day in my salons, I’m listening to my clients, and they also feel like brunette gives them more power and strength."
