An Honest Review Of Hourglass’ New “Veil” Skin Tint

info@hypebae.com (Hypebae)  Thu, 10 Aug 2023  Hypebae

Skin tints are such a summer vibe: easy to apply and even easier to wear, they are literally made for the days you want to spend more time outside and less time getting ready. They're lightweight and breathable compared to foundations which can, at times, feel uncomfortable or heavy, especially in the sticky heat. The trade-off, of course, is usually less coverage. But if you’re after that “dewy” summer look, you really couldn’t do better than with Hourglass' new "Veil" Hydrating Skin Tint.

Released just in time for the end of those summer days, the iconic brand, known for its kind-to-skin, cutting-edge formulas and sleek packaging, is launching its first-ever skin tint, dubbed the Hourglass "Veil" Hydrating Skin Tint. As celebrity and TikTok fans including Sofia Richie, Mindy Kaling and Hailey Bieber will attest to, Hourglass knows how to create an award-winning formula that ticks each and every box on a beauty enthusiast’s makeup wishlist.

Now, I'm usually wary of skin tints myself; finding one that works with my changing skin tone in the warmer months can be challenging. Plus, my skin is naturally oily so “hydrating” formulas can be a disaster, but Hourglass’ "Veil '' Skin Tint truly surprised me. Below is what I thought.

Hourglass "Veil" Hydrating Skin Tint: Why The Hype?

The new launch from Hourglass is the only skin tint on the market that is clinically proven to boost hydration by 52%, according to the brand’s research. Setting this product further apart is its innovative formula which includes a stellar line-up of moisture-boosting ingredients: meadowfoam seed oil, which replenishes and strengthens the skin's moisture barrier; hyaluronic acid; 5% plant-based squalene and a naturally-derived rambutan blend, for good moisture measure. Essentially: it is made to deliver all-day hydration.

As an extension of the brand's celebrated "Veil" collection, made for those looking for a "second skin" look, this new drop also conceals imperfections, evens skin tone and, as previously stated, instantly hydrates skin. The Hourglass' "Veil" Skin Tint gives the appearance of wearing foundation without any of the heavy feeling or clogged pores that can come with it. If I had to compare it to another product, I’d say it is giving BB Cream (beauty balm), which has more skin-loving benefits and offers sheer-to-full coverage, ideal for covering minor blemishes while still caring for your skin.

Hourglass "Veil" Hydrating Skin Tint: An Honest Review

First up: the packaging. That alone made me eager to rip open the box and slather the product all over my face. The crisp white and gold, travel-friendly, angled tube is topped with the chicest gold cap; top-shelf approved, for sure.

I blended two shades – 14 and 15, specifically – to achieve my perfect hue. As Hourglass is known for providing beauty fans with smart formulas, it was no shocker that the two diffused into my skin effortlessly and beautifully, covering up my minor hyperpigmentation marks flawlessly.

To apply, I started by applying a small amount of the product to my forehead, part of my male grooming technique which I’ve adapted through the years. This process involves me focusing first on my hairline to create a sharp and natural coverage distinction. As I blended it out with a small flat brush along my hairline and the upper part of my face, I was pleasantly surprised at how seamlessly the product melted into my skin. I could quite literally feel the hydration seeping into my skin, creating a beautiful "veil" in the process. To finish off the look, I applied two pumps of each shade to each cheek, blending out with a firm foundation brush.

Pro artist for Hourglass Adam Sidwell advised me that many people wear two to three shades, all contingent on the final result you’d desire. One big note from Sidwell is that as the product is water-based, so those who prefer using a beauty blender might swap it out for a brush to avoid the sponge  “suck up all of the goodness of the product” and potentially leaving you with a patchy finish.

As I said before, my skin is naturally oily, so I was worried about the lasting power of the hydrating formula – usually a no-go for me. But Hourglass’ "Veil '' Skin Tint held up in 90+ degree weather for 9+ hours without budging. Only a minor touch-up needed, which, for the New York City summer heat is no small feat. Overall, the product's efficacy was truly impressive.

The Final Verdict:

Is this something I would buy again? Absolutely. The packaging, formula and lasting power are all top-tier.
