TikTok Said "Skin Is In" With Foundation-Free Trend

As a millennial who started wearing makeup in the late '2000s, it used to frighten me when I would see the girlies sporting full makeup looks with colorful eyeliner and brightly colored lipsticks and glosses. The YouTube beauty enthusiasts back then told us that we needed to cover up all of the imperfections with concealer, foundation or tinted moisturizer and I promise you, it made a hell of a difference. However, TikTok now has a different theory and its.... interesting.

It could be my age showing, but a full, polished face is the best way to make your statement blush or graphic liner moment stand out, but the younger side of TikTok is leaning more toward #FoundationFreeMakeup with over 2.8 million views. Creators on this trend have taken to posting full beats without the complexion coverage.

We know the warmer months are upon us now and no one wants to wear a full face in the summer heat. The shift is also part of the ongoing "skin first" trend we've all been on the last few years, embracing our skin as it already wore. Some are prone to highlighting hyperpigmentation and acne — showing that textured skin is good skin.

The more people post foundation-less tutorials the more I'm reminded that makeup is meant to be worn any way it suits you. You can cover up your pimples but want the dark circles under your eyes to show. Instead of a full high-coverage foundation, you may want to go for a glowy base with your favorite serum. The possibilities are endless.
