6 Must-See Exhibitions at Art Basel Miami 2021

Art Basel Miami is back after taking a long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. For those in town to catch the last few days of Design Miami, we've rounded up a list of exhibits to visit.

Louis Vuitton is continuing its "Objets Nomades" series with a special installation by Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola, while Saint Laurent has commissioned Japanese artist Sho Shibuya to display 55 paintings on the beach. RIMOWA has tapped local American artists to reinterpret its signature trunk suitcase, and Crosby Studios' Harry Nuriev explores the different layers of space with a bedroom-themed installation. Further highlights include teamLab, James Turrell and more.

Louis Vuitton is continuing its "Objets Nomades" series with works by names like the Campana Brothers, Marcel Wanders Studio, Raw Edges and Zanellato/Bortotto. Displayed in the house's women's store, the immersive exhibition additionally features a special installation created in partnership with Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

Sho Shibuya "55 Sunrises" presented by Saint Laurent

Saint Laurent commissioned graphic designer Sho Shibuya to present "55 Sunrises" under its Rive Droite line. Comprised of 55 paintings (two of which are new), the artwork commemorates the 55th anniversary of the house's first Rive Gauche ready-to-wear boutique in Paris. Following Art Basel Miami, all of the paintings will be available for purchase at Saint Laurent Rive Droite Paris and Los Angeles next year.

Harry Nuriev "The Bedroom"

Crosby Studios founder Harry Nuriev's latest installation is an exploration of the "different layers of space, reality, and consciousness." Arriving after “The Elevator” and “The Garage” spaces, "The Bedroom" is a metallic silver room showcasing different moods based on the moving gradient LEV ceiling display.

RIMOWA enlisted a number of international artists to reimagine its iconic suitcase into sculptural art. The series, which initially launched prior to the pandemic, is joined by local American artists Nicole McLaughlin, Benjamin Edgar, Emmett Moore, Maxwell Arkin, Noel Mercado and Sean Brown.

Superblue Miami: Es Devlin, James Turrell, teamLab "Every Wall is a Door"

May 20, 2021 onwards

Superblue is a new hub for experimental and interactive art that first opened its doors back in May. The space's inaugural exhibition, collectively titled "Every Wall is a Door," features Es Devlin, James Turrell and teamLab. Here, Devlin displays her "Forest Us" mirror installation, while teamLab presents a floral space and Turrell showcases his light-based work "Ganzfeld."

Pilar Zeta "Hall of Visions"

Art Basel Miami Design Week Must-See Exhibitions

Emerging artist Pilar Zeta created her beach installation "Hall of Visions" inspired by the "search for the ability to be present to manifest a future self." The piece, which features a corridor leading up to a giant sculptural egg," also comes in NFT form on digital art platform Aorist.
